Social networking uses the power of internet technology to connect friends and like-minded people. Sites like MySpace and Facebook allow users to build personal profiles and interact in new ways. Friends can swap not only messages but also virtual gifts, doodles, lists of “favorites” and much more. Other friends can observe the interaction and join in if they please.
Each profile features some personal information about the user, which can browse videos, comments, lists and other information. Some sites even offer applications that can be installed to check sports scores, offer thoughtful quotes as more. Discussion groups feature lively chats about thousands of different topics.
New contacts as well as people with similar interests, can be quickly located on the network. But if users want to keep things private and only interact with friends they already know, that’s fine too.
On social networking sites, everyone comes to sample the user-generated content, not just material from a central provider. Social networking is about community. Communication and entertainment. Dozens of popular social networking sites provide all sorts of services to suit every kind of person.

Socializing Revolution
The English language has different names for it hanging out, grabbing coffee, networking, but it’s all the same thing. It’s people getting together to create and strengthen friendships, share ideas and interests, and do business. Now, there’s a revolutionary way to do all this over the internet.
Today, the number of global internet socializers is surging into the millions. Why? One big reason is that social interaction sites offer much than a long distance phone call or an e-mail can. They provide a fresh and i______ (巧妙的,独创的) way for people to share messages, photos, homemade music and videos in effect, their very lives. These sites also make it possible for people to extend friendship to strangers who share special interests, be it a love for golden retrievers or 17th century French tapestries.
In the business arena, companies that outsource can save bundles on travel and still keep in contact with far-flung branch offices.
“Keeping in touch” was a hit or miss affair in the past. Today, friends, families and business associate can stay connected more easily. Internet social networks are a fast, convenient way to satisfy our i_______(先天的,天生的) need to grow, to know, and to be known.

Superficiality
If you use social networking sites, your circle of friends may grow wider but will the friendships grow deeper? Some communications experts b_______ (哀叹) the growth of social networks as users increasingly satisfy themselves with posting superficial observations and “information disconnected from meaning or purpose.” Put another way, socializing over the internet f_____ (培养)shallow relationships.
Who am I chatting with, really?
Sadly, internet social network sites have become another place for hackers, con artists and sexual p_______(掠夺者,侵犯者)to prowl (潜行)for unsuspecting victims. The nature of the internet allows people to freely misrepresent themselves and pretend to be someone or something they’re not. People don’t really know who they’re talking to on the internet.
Someone is watching
Networking sites want you to feel that you have control over who sees your personal information. However, the reality is quite different as sites are now being used as s________(监视)tools. Growing numbers of campus authorities, HR departments and local police freely sift through user text and photos to monitor behavior and to investigate crimes. And if they can do it, why couldn’t your nosy neighbor?
There’s really no substitute for face-to-face social interaction, it’s more meaningful, honest and personal and it’s safer.
Now, what’s your viewpoint?

Outsourcing jobs saves our company a lot of money, but it also means more jobs are moving out of the city.
