Until now the agency has said there were as many as 500 million infections every year with a million deaths. A new report estimates the number of malaria cases in 2006 at about 250 million. And it estimates the number of deaths at 881,000. the great majority who die are young children. The WHO says the older(old) numbers came from using of malaria maps from the 1960s. but changes have taken place including the movement of people to cities especially in Asia. The disease is less common in urban areas. The report says malaria deaths have decreased in several countries. And a few African nations have reduced deaths by half. yet the malaria drugs needed for what is known as artemisinin- based combination therapy reached only 3 percent of African children in them(need). In the last 2 years though, there have been greatly increased efforts to provide family with bed nets. These nets are treated with insecticides to kill the mosquitoes that spread the malaria. Campaigns of indoor spraying of insecticide in home have also increased in Africa and Australia.

MIT says 75 % of freshmen came there with a strong interest and involvement in the arts. Modern universities developed from those of Europe in the Middle ages. The word university from the Latin universities(universitas) describing a group of people organized for a common purpose. College came from collegure(collegium) , a Latin word with the similar meaning. In England, colleges were formed to provide students with places to live. usually each group was studying the same thing. So college came to mean an area with studying. The first of American universities divided their studies into a number of areas and called each one a college. This is still truth. A collage can also be a part of university. For example, Harvard college is the undergraduate part of Harvard university. Programs in higher learning can also be called schools, like school of engineering , or a medical school within a college or an university. You know learning all these terms is an education in itself.

Americans use the term college students to mean students either in colleges or universities. not only that , Americans almost never say going off to universities or when I was in universities. that sounds British. instead they say going off to the college or when I was in college. college and university, what is the difference. we answer that in part 3 of our foreign serials on the American higher education. colleges and universities have many things in common. both offer undergraduates degrees in the arts and sciences for example. and both can help prepare young people to earn a living. but many colleges do not offer graduate studies. another difference is that universities are generally bigger. they offer more programs and do more research. another place of higher education especially in technical areas is an institute ,like MIT. yet even an institute of technology can offer a wide choice of programs and activities.

the federal reserve and other major central banks pumped extra money into financial markets on Thursday. the aim was to help calm investors and persuade nervous banks to lend to each other. president Bush cancelled travel plans , and stayed in Washington on Thursday to meet with the economic advisors about the financial crisis. he made a brief public statement on the stroke measure (extraordinary measures) taken by federal government in recent week. he said his administration will continue to add to strengthen them (act to strengthen)financial markets and improve investor confidence. last week, the government took control the nation’s two biggest housing finance companies. and this week the federal agreed to lend up to 85 billion dollars to the largest insurance company-AIG, the American international group. in return the government will own 80 percent of AIG and receive interest on the two year loan. president Bush says the failure of AIG could have caused severe problems on the financial markets, and threatened the other parts of the economy. AIG got into deep trouble on the insurance policies that it provided for securities tied to risky home loans. it has dealings with other(every) major financial company in the united states . and it operates in more than 100 countries.

State.org. one important piece of advice : give yourself plenty of time to plan your studies in united states . educational advisers say you should begin planning at least 2 years before you want to start classes .
