Some people think museums should be enjoyable places to attract and entertain young people. Others think the purpose of museums is to educate, not to entertain. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
It is unassailable that museums , of all kinds , are playing a more and more significant role in the masses’ daily life nowadays. Therefore , inevitably , there arises a social ambivalence over the ‘hot potato’ of whether they are places where to some extent, young people can get entertainment. To be frank , the museums , in my opinion, is more a place to educate than to attract or amuse the public.
Despite the exhibits’ significance in instruction, some hold the view that the original resason why the ancient people , say , drew a picture or made an sculpture which are now displayed in the museum is to delight people, so they should not be treated as an encyclopaedia but an enjoyment. Other feel that museums , if decorated according to the young’s taste , become enjoyable places, and hence it is more possible that teenagers will get interested in history , leading to the result that they may visit these ‘ temple of knowledge’ more often , so that they may acquire more history lore. Although these two reasons given appear to be self-evident , this issue still need to be canvased.
Museum, as a place where historical exhibits are displayed , is and should be where young people can enlarge mental edification and spiritual abundance by appreciation of aesthetics rather than where they can get some amusement which can be simply got in TV. What’s more , it goes without saying that if we do not take steps to make better the study atmosphere in museum but place efforts on the superficial recreation , the masses’ respect to their ancestors’ things will suffer substantially, thus resulting in the loss of consciousness of glorious humanity history. If our children think our museum is palce for fun , who can ensure that they don’t disregard their and also our ancestors?
Although the viewpoint that museums should be enjoyable places seems reasonable to some extent, the consequence of my opinoion outweighs that of making them pleasant. So I want to suggest that owning to considerable draw backs of making museums delightful , we had better just leave them as what they are now – a good place for study.
