Topic: In some countries, it is possible to buy a wide variety of goods which have been transported from all over the world.. To what extent to do the benefits of this development outweigh the drawbacks?

As the globalization is promoting, a wide variety of foods which have been transported from all over the world are available in some countries. Amounts of people in different areas are benefited by such an expansion, nevertheless, some opposite voices against it have arisen.

The negative impact taken into consideration is mainly about local food industries. Those who hold a hostility against the international food trade insist that large supplies of imported foods may take their toll on the subsistence of local food-produce factories, especially in undeveloped countries. Thanks to the technical advance in food production of developed countries, as well as its effective and costless modern transportation, the local food industries definitely take disadvantages in such an international war.

What cannot be denied are the significant benefits brought by the global food transportation which gives people much convenience and helps meet their changing needs. Though, imported foods are always in higher prices than local ones, there is an ongoing popularity of enjoying various kinds of snacks, fruits or even cuisine imported from the rest of the world, particularly among young generations. It is an instinct in humans to pursue and experience new things. In addition, it is widely accepted, to some extent, food can represent the native culture. Thus, deep recognization between countries and mutual culture understanding can be achieved from this tendency.

Meanwhile, the prosperity of international food trade is a crucial aspect in the world economic globalization process. It will bring a series of positive influence, including framework improvements and standard promotions of international trades. Also, sufficient food supplies can lead export countries to efficient economy growth and help import countries balance its food-supply system.

In conclusion, in spite of its limited negative effects, a variety of imported foods benefit not only consumers throughout the world, but also the world economic globalization process. As long as the government makes suitable policies, this international food trade can help keep the balance of food resource distribution.

Recently, the controversial debate surrounding universities has sparked interests among students and the media. Some of them deem universities principally provide training for people to be qualified employees. However, others support that it is more reasonable to set down universities as a centre of culture life where knowledge is transferred and updated. This essay will argue that the main functions of universities as the highest educational institution are teaching and researching.



Firstly, imparting knowledge and educating people are basic duty of universities where people decide career direction and acquire more specialized knowledge and skills. Systematic and comprehensive training programs in specific fields urge people to master information required quickly and thoroughly. Nevertheless, universities are not only continuation of schooling but a platform where people start knowing more about society. The essential social capabilities such as communication skills, teamwork, leadership and time management are gradually cultivated with group workshops and various kinds of social activities in universities.



Secondly, universities playing the most important role in education system have to guarantee the knowledge conveyed is true and useful, which can be achieved through the researching function. Old knowledge is applied to particular problems during research and solutions found often bring about innovations in culture and technology to promote human and communities to step forward.



In conclusion, it can be seen that universities produce a great many of talents with outstanding teaching and advance the progress of human society with achievements in scientific research. Both teaching and researching working together lead to the success of today’s universities.

Recently, the controversial debate surrounding universities has sparked interest among students and the media. Some people agree that the major role of universities is to prepare students for success in the market after graduation. Others prefer to believe students do not only take some "training program" for employment but for knowledge requirements. In my mind, there are two main functions of universities: teaching and researching.

As an education institution, a university is ought to make its students competent and confident for high-level jobs with providing professional training as well as developing their wholesome personality through imparting other non-professional knowledge. It is a centre of culture life involving people in different disciplines who are not isolated but communicating with each other. An economic student, for instance, is required to obtain basic art knowledge to graduate, which obviously is not that important for his career life.

The other function of university is researching. University transfer information through teaching which is generally developed from researching. It is their responsibility to advance culture and technology. Applying special knowledge to particular problems helps improve the culture of communities outside universities, which is a social responsibility universities take and preserve the connection between knowledge and society.

In conclusion, a university is not a continuation of schooling nor a professional training ground. It is a focus of cultural synthesis where communication of knowledge happens among various kinds of departments and a centre of research where information is delivered outside of universities.
