这期economist的刊物封面是一个蒙了眼（准确说应该是被蒙了眼）的高卢雄鸡，比喻法国的现状，开头的部分吸引了我。”The French constitute the most brilliant and the most dangerous nation in Europe and the best qualified in turn to become an object of admiration, hatred, pity or terror but never indifference. ” （法国是全欧洲最光鲜、最不安分的国家，也最容易成为赞美、憎恶、同情、恐怖的交织的镁光灯。）这句话是Alexis de Tocqueville在19世纪初描述的法国，到了如今“事过境同”。这句话虽是描述法国，但作为一句可以改写的开头句，不失为一句有意境的好句子。比如在上次写“幸福”的文章中，我可以重新编辑一个opening。Happiness constitutes the most desirable and undesirable part in life and the best qualified in turn to become a spotlight of admiration, greed, ambition and corruption. 这句话既运用了名人名言，又不失自己的风格，还有韵脚。自己不妨得意一下。
下面在第二段的开头还发现一个可用的structural transition——on the face of it，推荐一些“精”一点同义短语：at the outset / commencement，first off，for openers.

（英）萨莉大婶：指易受批评、攻击的对象，众矢之的，替罪羊。取自于英国一游戏中口含烟斗的女模拟像的名字，游戏者用棒或球等向她投掷烟头。
评：看来不仅Uncle Sam（山姆大叔）不怎么样，Aunt Sally也差不多，看来我们在说一个东西不好的时候，又多了一种形象的讲法。
